RANDWICK

Track: Heavy 10. Rail: True

R1: TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP (1400m)

Overview: Open TAB Highway to kick off the day. Twig sets up OK after a couple of runner up efforts and she just needs luck from the wide draw to figure. Optimo can get a long way back in his races but he does have a nice finish on him. The Dramatist was caught wide last start at Scone and can bounce back here. He was heavily backed last start.

BETTING ADVICE: Leaning to Twig at the odds.

R2: PRECISE AIR HANDICAP (1400m)

Overview: Interesting two-year-old race. I liked the effort of Golden Queen first up behind a smart one at Scone and she just needs to handle the sharp rise to 1400m here. Backrower was strong late on debut and the step up in trip looks a natural progression. Amati was great against the bias fresh, while there are other chances too.

BETTING ADVICE: Not much between Backrower and Golden Queen.

R3: CANTERBURY LEAGUE CLUB HANDICAP (1400m)

Overview: And We Danced is sure to have admirers here and she was solid fresh without ever really threatening. She has been pretty costly for punters in Australia so far and she does only have a short, sharp turn of foot. Strange Charm had no luck fresh and the claim of Dylan Gibbons brings her right into play here. Narrated and Ita on the next line.

BETTING ADVICE: And We Danced the horse to beat but Strange Charm could be the value perhaps?

R4: MIDWAY HANDICAP (1200m)

Overview: Open Midway with a stack of chances. I thought Calgary Queen was good last start after overracing outside the lead and she is on the quick back up here. She gets through heavy ground and should be in the finish. Rebel Shadow pulled up slow to recover last start but the effort prior was terrific. Dalaalaat is going great guns but the wet track is an obvious concern for him. There are other hopes too.

BETTING ADVICE: Calgary Queen the one to beat but she is short enough.

R5: WILSON ASSET MANAGEMENT HANDICAP (2400m)

Overview: Very open staying race and you can make a case for most of these. Bonny Ezra was able to pick himself up off the canvass last start to score and he just has to handle the step up in trip now. Arabolini found the conditions a bit too dry last start but his heavy form prior puts him right in this. Mission Phoenix is building towards a win, while Shameless Miss, Feel The Rush and Our Candidate are all hopes.

BETTING ADVICE: Plenty of chances here. Our Candidate isn’t hopeless at big odds.

R6: SPORTING CHANCE CANCER FOUNDATION HANDICAP (1200m)

Overview: Democracy Manifest has been going great guns in two runs for Chris Waller and he gets the chance to bring that form to Saturday grade now. Bella Rouge chased hard fresh with the big weight and she looks well suited here with weight relief. Warrior Hero was super fresh but he did find the fast lane at Canterbury all the same.

BETTING ADVICE: Bella Rouge at the odds?

R7: TAYLOR CONSTRUCTION HANDICAP (1100m)

Overview: Looks a nice race for Andermatt to bounce back in and he just didn’t appreciate the firmer track at Scone. He was also wide and stepping out in trip. Back to 1100m at Randwick suits on a heavy track. Southern Lad was luckless fresh and races well at Randwick, while watch betting on first upper, All Time Legend. He has some class on his day.

BETTING ADVICE: Andermatt to win.

R8: FUJITSU GENERAL HANDICAP (1400m)

Overview: Coal Crusher is just a winner and he keeps finding a way to salute. The figures from his last win were soft and he has to run out 1400m against some seasoned gallopers here but he does get in with just 52kg. Kirwans Lane, Fender, Animate, Grove Ferry and Handle The Truth are all chances but I’m happy to side with the horse on the up with no weight on his back.

BETTING ADVICE: Coal Crusher to win.

R9: UPHIRE HANDICAP (1300m)

Overview: Looks a nice race for French Marine and he drops 7.5kg after the claim of Dylan Gibbons here. Back to 1300m is some concern but he maps so well and enjoys the conditions. Sacrimony was disappointing last start but he is a better horse than that and his form prior to that was very encouraging. Kalino has been gelded and has been trialling well leading in, while Cotehele just has to handle the wet track to run well.

BETTING ADVICE: French Marine to win.

R10: PF CIVIL HANDICAP (1100m)

Overview: He has really got his confidence up at the moment American President and getting back onto a heavy track is really going to assist him here. He is sure to have plenty of admirers again. Queen Bellissimo has drawn a low gate and she did enough fresh and has trialled well since. Patino Ruby and Snowzone on the next line, while Hulk and Fox Fighter are always chances in these types of races.

BETTING ADVICE: American President on top.
