As the Lebaran momentum winds down and we return to our regular routines, returning to a better, healthier diet is vital to one’s general health and wellbeing, especially if you have helped yourself to generous servings of your favorite Lebaran dishes.

To kickstart the path to a healthier lifestyle, Tokopedia has collaborated with nutritionist Dr. Elfina Rachmi, MGizi, SpGK to share five tips for a healthy diet after Ramadan and Idul Fitri:

  1. Sugar, salt and oil intake – Limit the consumption of sugar, salt and oil while simultaneously  monitoring your weight. In addition, regular health checkups, enough rest, and stress management is also vital to the process.
  2. Strict dietary principles – Follow the four “Js” of healthy diet: Jumlah, Jadwal, Jenis dan Jurus Masak (Amount, Schedule, Type and Style of Cooking). An adequate amount and balanced diet along with a regular schedule ensures that the metabolic process is well maintained. Also to be considered are healthy cooking techniques with varied processing methods, such as steamed, boiled, grilled and pepes as opposed to frying. Frying should ideally be limited to a maximum of twice a week.
  3. Selection of food types – Ensure that all macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein or fat), micronutrients (vitamin minerals) and daily fluid needs are met. Instead, opt for complex carbohydrates such as brown rice, whole grain bread or oatmeal.  Fat should ideally be from good fat sources, while saturated fats from fried foods or junk food should be reduced. At the same time, pay attention to fiber intake that can be obtained from vegetables and fruits.
  4. Fluid intake – Make sure to drink as much as 2 liters of water or eight glasses a day. Minimize overly sugary, fizzy and caffeinated drinks, as they cause you to urinate more often and may inhibit calcium absorption.

Physical activities and exercise – Ideally, exercise should be done three to five times a week. Start with light to moderate exercise such as walking around the house to flex the muscles that have not been trained for a long time, then gradually adjust the exercise schedule according to the needs and condition of the body.

Throughout Ramadan 2022, the Tokopedia Ramadan Ekstra campaign among many others attracted a great deal of attention from shoppers across Indonesia.

“This in turn pushed the Food and Beverages, Fashion, and Household categories to the top three favorite categories,” explained Tokopedia head of external communications Ekhel Chandra Wijaya.

Honey, cookies and coffee became the bestselling products in Tokopedia Nyam!, while instant noodles instantly became crowd favorites for sahur in Tokopedia NOW!.

On the other hand, Muslim prayer equipment experienced a nearly fourfold increase in sales throughout Ramadan 2022, while Tokopedia customers raised more than Rp 15 billion in zakat, wakaf and fidyah charitable donations.

According to Ekhel, the trend of sending Ramadan parcels was also in full swing, with the most common items sent via Tokopedia Parsel Ramadan being cookies, praying equipment and body care products.

“The furthest delivery for a parcel was from Pekanbaru, Riau to Jayapura, Papua,” he said.

Pipitlin Cocoa, founded by Tissa Aunilla and Irvan Helmi, is an example of a local MSME that took the opportunity during Ramadan to increase sales. Ramadan was also a golden opportunity for MSMEs to boost their sales, like Pipiltin Cocoa did by joining the Tokopedia Parsel Ramadan campaign.

Founded in 2013 by siblings Tissa Aunilla dan Irvan Helmi, Pipiltin Cocoa prides itself on its chocolate products, which fully use the diverse selection of Indonesian cocoa.

According to Irvan, Indonesian chocolate was relatively unknown for a long time, noting that Belgian chocolate was widely popular even though the raw materials do not originate from that country.

“We use single-origin cocoa from six regions; Aceh, East Java, Bali, Flores, East Kalimantan and West Papua. Our unique selling point is our range of single-origin chocolates, with the packaging emphasizing the region where the cocoa is grown,” he said.

Pipiltin Cocoa, which employs more than 2,000 local chocolate farmers, exclusively produces couverture chocolate that uses cocoa butter as opposed to vegetable oil that is usually used in the cheaper compound chocolate.

“The taste and feel is very much different as the chocolate melts in your mouth,” Tissa said, adding that compound chocolate has a higher melting point due to the vegetable oil content.

By participating in the Tokopedia Parsel Ramadan campaign, Irvan said that Pipiltin Cocoa experienced a more than threefold rise in sales.

“This year, it’s interesting to note that our sales figures rose even though people have started traveling home for Lebaran, because logically they’d bring gifts with them instead of ordering online, We think that there is a sense of celebration and euphoria this year, which also translated to more sales,” he said, adding that he hopes the trend will continue to the yearend period as well as Lebaran 2023.
